Lecture : Orthodontic and Multidisciplinary Aesthetic Treatments: An Integrated Approach for Complex Dental Rehabilitation
(Day 3) 23rd November 2025 : 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Explores the synergistic role of orthodontics within a broader aesthetic treatment framework, integrating periodontal therapy, prosthodontics, implantology, TMD, and restorative dentistry.
The pursuit of optimal aesthetic and functional outcomes in dental treatment increasingly demands a multidisciplinary approach, particularly in complex cases involving periodontally compromised patients or missing dentition. This seminar explores the synergistic role of orthodontics within a broader aesthetic treatment framework, integrating periodontal therapy, prosthodontics, implantology, TMD, and restorative dentistry.
Orthodontic treatment serves not only to align teeth but also to create ideal spacing and angulation for prosthetic rehabilitation. In periodontally compromised patients, orthodontic tooth movement must be approached with caution and careful coordination with periodontal therapy to prevent exacerbation of bone loss (Nart et al., 2014). Advances in periodontal regeneration and maintenance protocols have significantly expanded the boundaries for safe orthodontic intervention in such cases (Bollen et al., 2008).
Additionally, the placement of dental implants often requires pre-orthodontic space creation or post-orthodontic site optimization. This is especially critical in the aesthetic zone, where soft tissue profile and bone volume are essential considerations for implant success (Misch, 2015). Interdisciplinary planning enhances both the predictability and longevity of such treatments, emphasizing the need for synchronized collaboration among specialists (Kokich & Spear, 2006).
Clinical case presentations will illustrate how comprehensive treatment planning — involving orthodontists, periodontists, prosthodontists, and oral surgeons — results in superior aesthetic and functional outcomes. The session aims to provide insights into treatment sequencing, communication among specialists, and evidence-based decision-making in managing complex aesthetic cases (Zucchelli & De Sanctis, 2000).
